What We Do

History

In 2019, Camp Leo and ConnecT1D began operating together as Camp Leo+ConnecT1D. We were two organizations joining forces to serve the type 1 diabetes community through inspiring and empowering experiences.

As one organization, we have been able to share resources, streamline operations, and introduce new children and adults to our camps and programs. Even as it became more challenging to gather in person, we always felt we were stronger together.

Camp Leo has offered overnight residential camps exclusively for children with Type 1 Diabetes for thirty years. Hundreds of campers every year take part in Camp Leo’s Elementary School, Middle School, Junior High, and High School camps, which are staffed by volunteers with Type 1 Diabetes.

Founded in 2011 ,ConnecT1D has provided community-building programs for families, adults, and teens living with Type 1 Diabetes. The organization’s tentpole program is the ConnecT1D Family Camp, an annual event that brings together families from throughout the Pacific Northwest who understand the impact of Type 1 Diabetes. In 2016, ConnecT1D hosted the first Adult Retreat in Seattle, Washington. This one of a kind program creates space to learn, share and connect around the experience of living with T1D.

In 2021, these two beloved organizations merged officially to create Type 1 United.

Our Mission

Fostering a community that empowers, educates and inspires those impacted by Type one diabetes through year-round programs for children, adults and families.

Before camp my daughter was timid and seemed to forget that she is still a kid and can do kid stuff. She didn’t want to play and seemed to be fearful of her diagnosis...Since middle school camp this year she has blossomed in so many ways, she is comfortable with her DX and plays again. I got my kiddo back so thank you! Can’t wait till next year!
