• Joyce Walters, Executive Director

    Joyce became the Executive Director of Type 1 United in June 2024.

    Joyce comes to Type 1 United with experience in both the corporate and nonprofit sectors. Most recently she served as the executive director for a multimillion-dollar statewide educational nonprofit that served over 600 schools throughout the state providing need-based funding to improve student outcomes. Earlier in her career, she was a member of the corporate giving team at Boeing, where she ultimately rose to the title of Corporate Director of Education and Workforce Initiatives.

    Joyce has a passion for supporting children and families and that has been a constant thread in her career. “I’m excited to join the Type 1 United team and contribute to an organization providing life-changing experiences for children, adults and families living with type 1 diabetes.” Joyce has family members living with diabetes and looks forward to using her professional and personal experiences to contribute to the continued success of the organization.

    A native of Port Angeles, Joyce has deep roots in the Pacific Northwest. She looks forward to building on Type 1 United’s existing partnerships and sharing the organization with new partners. Joyce enjoys traveling, hiking, fitness, canine scentwork, reading, cooking and gardening. She can often be found on the ocean beaches or hiking in rain forests with her beagle, Liam.

  • Tina Ghosn, Program Coordinator

    Tina Ghosn (camp name Kanga) has raised three children with Type 1 Diabetes, all of them Camp Leo alumni. She has degrees in Organization Communication and Education, and is a veteran of the United States Air Force. She has been volunteering for Camp Leo since 2016 in the roles of merchandise sales, photographer, and office assistant. She is a passionate advocate for raising awareness for Type 1 diabetes, and mental health care.

    Tina’s youngest child was diagnosed at age 2, followed by her oldest child diagnosed at age 9, and finally her middle child was diagnosed at age 11.

    Tina has been substitute teaching in the Snoqualmie Valley since she moved to Washington in 2014. Now she is excited to jump into the Type 1 United Program Coordinator role to help ensure our mission to foster a community that empowers those impacted by type one diabetes through year-round programs for children, adults, and families continues to grow and support all the sweetest adults and children in Washington.
